Nature
I marvel at nature quite often. We take it for granted, the innately occurring things that we know will happen daily. Like the sunrise, many people don’t really care that the sun has risen. It’s just a sign that we need to awake from our slumbers, chicken come out to roost, and the day begins. But I love watching the sunrise. I’ve awoken very early and driven to see the sun rise above the New York skyline up close. The colors are astonishing, to me it never looks the same twice. Some days the sky turns red with orange streaks, others you see clear blue with yellow peaking through. Then there are other occasions when the sun is rising but we still see the moon peeking through the clouds. It’s truly something.
Then there are times when I’m driving while the sun sets, it takes willpower to not pull over and snap a picture. The sky turning shades of pink and orange stuns me. I might have a slight obsession with Rayleigh Scattering (Google it).
I also love the moon. A friend of mine calls me a moon child. The full moon sucks me in every time I see it. I take a moment to thank whatever it is in the universe that allows me to view its beauty. This natural satellite is 238,856 miles from earth, yet still controls the oceans gravitational pull causing high tide. Marvelous I tell you.
I can go on about how I love the smell of flowers, how I become transfixed by the colors. I can tell you starry nights have the ability to make me shed tears because I never see them where I live. Beaches are my favorite places in the world, the smell of the ocean and sand under my toes is what I call a perfect day.
But I would like all of you do to one thing today. Stop for a moment today, soak something in. Whether it be the early morning, or in the darkness of night. Listen to the waves if you’re near the beach. Stare at the moon if you’re able to see it. Smell the sweet scent of flowers if you happen upon some. Watch the sunrise in silence. Enjoy nature.
